This is a small shrub with very small leaves, making it perfect for a hedge or for bonsai. In spring, the plants are covered in single crimson flowers. In colder climates it may drop its leaves in winter, but by cold – I mean cold. It is quite happy to flower with snow on the ground. When stressed, the leaves take on a purplish tint.
Best grown in acidic, organically rich, humusy, medium moisture, moisture-retentive but well-drained soils in part shade. Prefers a sun dappled or high open shade.
Plant is sterile.
A Kurume hybrid by Vermeulen.
