This is a warm season grass that does not start growing until mid to late spring or even early summer. Their major growth and flowering happen when the weather is hot. They turn shades of brown for the winter and can then be cut back. They have upright, burgundy-tinted arching leaves and gracefully nodding soft purple plumes. This variety is especially noted for the amount of red in its coloration.
