The incredible dense mat of small glossy leaves on this plant make the colors really stand out. New growth emerges emerald green edged in gold, gradually becoming marbled with warm orange and gold hues. The color intensifies in winter to brilliant orange and red.
Coprosma is native to Australia, New Zealand, and Borneo.
Thrives in mild climates. A fairly long-lived plant with expected life of 20 years. Likes consistent moisture but not standing water. Can tolerate some drought once established.
Can be pruned for topiaries or hedges. Wind and salt tolerance.
‘Tequila Sunrise’ was discovered by Stephen Burton in a cultivated area of Cambridge, New Zealand, in 2003 as a naturally occurring branch mutation of Coprosma ‘Yuanne’.
