Agave isthmensis 'Rum Runner'

Agave isthmensis ‘Rum Runner’

The mature size of this plant is 10″ diameter and hopefully it will color up more as it ages because the color of the plant I received is not as intense as those of mature plants. It should have bright yellow centers with a silvery-green outer band. Spines are soft and rubbery. Blooms in spring with a pink-orange flower.

Pronunciation: a-GAH-vee isth-MEN-sis

Species Meaning: Of or from an isthmus, a narrow strip of land bounded by water on both sides (i.e., the Isthmus of Tehuantepec)

Cultivation Notes

Full sun. Only water when dry in summer. Use a very free-draining organic rich soil.

Propagation Notes

From offsets,

In Our Garden

Plant ID: P21162

Found in Compost Heap,

This Agave is tender so will need to come into the greenhouse in winter. It spent the winter of 2022/23 in the cold frames and did not make it. Clearly too tender for us.

We acquired this plant from California Dreemin.
