Mangave is a relatively new phenomenon, an intergeneric cross of Manfreda x Agave. These rare hybrids combine the best of both worlds: the better growth rate and the interesting patterns of Manfreda, and the habit and refinement of Agave. That means that the correct way to name it would be x Mangave. However, the botanists have been fiddling again and have moved Manfreda into Agave, meaning it is no longer considered a cross species hybrid and should just be considered as an Agave hybrid.
Name Derivation: Intergeneric hybrid (Agave x Manfreda)
Common Name: Mangave
x Mangave is in the family Asparagaceae.
