About 40 species of annuals and perennial make up the Monardella genus. Native to the west coast of North America, ranging from Northern Mexico to British Columbia. Most like a sunny, sharply drained site and can be attractive in a rock garden or pot.
Monardella is a nectar plant for many butterflies and moths, including the endangered Myrtle’s silverspot.
Name Derivation: Diminutive of Monarda (genus named for Nicolas Monardes, 16th century Spanish physician and botanist)
