There was only one species in this genus Gloriosa superba. Littonia was merged into the genus bringing it up to 12 species. They are native to tropical Africa and Asia. While its common name is the Gloriosa Lily, it is not a lily and is in the plant family that contains the autumn crocus. That is a common element between all of them – they contain colchicine and other alkaloids, making them toxic if ingested.
