There are 130 or 140 species of Fritillaria which are all spring flowering bulbous perennial plants. The flowers are usually solitary, nodding and bell-shaped with bulbs that have fleshy scales, resembling those of lilies.
Seed is sown in fall for spring germination. They need a period of cold for germination.
