There are a little under 200 species of Epilobium with Worldwide distribution. They are herbaceous annuals or perennials, with a few sub-shrubs. Some of them are pests and need to be confined.
A number of genus have been merged in with this including Zauschneria.
Commonly called willowherbs because of the form of their leaves.
Name Derivation: The name Epilobium comes from the Greek word 'epi' meaning "upon" and 'lobium' meaning "a pod" in reference to the flowers being superior, meaning that they sit above the developing seed capsules.
