There are over 180 species of ferns, all of which are called Lady Ferns due to the shield that encloses their sori. A Sori is part of the reproductive mechanism for ferns. They do not set seed, instead they use spores and the sori is basically the spore factory. The genus also contains ferns such as the Japanese Painted Fern.
